Dohmen Company Corporate Headquarters

The Dohmen Company, which provides technical consulting services to life science manufacturers, was founded in 1858 in Milwaukee’s Third Ward. The company wished to relocate its 170 employees from Menomonee Falls back to the city.

TKWA was hired to design an exterior and interior renovation of this one-story industrial brick building originally constructed in 1963. The entrance was moved from the middle of the block to the corner of Chicago and Milwaukee. Three large glassy bays facing Milwaukee St. rise above the horizon of the original building. These vertical rectangles give the front a rhythm and transparency that lightens the mass and provide increased natural daylight.

PROGRAM

Renovation of existing single-story industrial building into modern office space

The design provides abundant natural light and creates an open design with a variety of common areas – including kitchen, meeting room with fireplace, game room, fitness center, and outdoor patio. The new offices were designed to improve an atmosphere of collaboration and creativity among employees, said Cynthia LaConte, Chief Executive Officer. “We wanted space that encouraged communication and idea sharing as a way to keep pace with change, and advance innovation.”
