Fastenal Corporate Office
The largest industrial supply company in North America, Fastenal Corporation employs over 22,000 staff worldwide, including approximately 1,800 people at its headquarters in Winona, Minnesota. To meet increased staffing demands and, importantly, to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to the greater Winona community Fastenal announced plans to build a major new office building along a prominent riverfront site near the heart of downtown Winona.
TKWA was hired to provide site planning, space planning, architecture, and interior design for the new office, with the goal of creating a modern workspace environment that will help attract and retain staff for its product development and information technology departments. The four story, 110,000 building was designed to accommodate approximately 450-600 new staff in phased development.
While contemporary in design, the building reflects the historic character of downtown Winona through the use of local stone and masonry veneer. To reinforce the urban context and pedestrian scale; the building was located at the street edge, with surface parking located behind. Building sustainable strategies include natural daylighting, highly efficient thermal envelope, and raised access air HVAC floor systems.
Mass timber has been utilized for the building structure, greatly reducing the new building’s carbon footprint.
